HE ALIʻI KA ʻĀINA, HE KAUWĀ KE KANAKA

The land is the chief, the people are the servant.

Kaueleau Farms is dedicated to better than organic food production and responsible land stewardship. Contribute to your 'ohana's health by supporting local agriculture on Hawai'i island.

Five Generations of Land Stewardship

Located in the 'Opihikao area of the Puna district, the farm was origninally established as an 'awa farm. The farm has out-lived sugar production, pioneered organic farming and pest management in the 1970's, and most recently produced poi and kulolo for the local market.

Modernizing The Farm

As part of our decades long shift away from leasing large tracts of the farm to chemical farmers, we've decided to participate in the GoFarm Hawai'i program to integrate contemporary farming.

Why use the phrase “better than organic”?

Federally certified organic farming allows for the use of over seventy chemicals in food production. Many of these chemicals were lobbied for by big agriculture in order to support massive operations that use certification for marketing.

Because we only use two natural chemicals for pest management, we confidently use the phrase “better than organic”. These chemicals are:

  • Dipel, used to prevent moth damagees on brassicas (cabbage, kale, etc).
  • Sluggo, use to control snails and slugs.
How Are the Vegetables Cleaned & Harvested?
  • Same day harvest.
  • All vegetables are field washed in a certified food production facility.
  • Customers MUST wash all vegetables before consumption.
  • Rat Lung Worm: All lettuces are treated with Slug-O (Federally organically approved and one of the few chemicals that are used) towards the end of their harvest and washed thoroughly at the GoFarm Alae Facility.
What is CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community's farm.
